Columbia, S.C. – The 19th-ranked University of South Carolina men’s soccer team fell to No. 14 Coastal Carolina, 3-0, tonight in the first match of the College of Charleston Invitational at Patriot’s Point. South Carolina falls to 9-6-1, while the Chanticleers improve to 15-0-1.

After a scoreless first half, Mubarike Chisoni scored an unassisted goal to give Coastal Carolina a 1-0 lead. In the 83rd minute, Joseph Ngwenya scored his first of two goals when he combined with Thomas Rutter. Six minutes later Ngwenya reached the back of the net to give Coastal Carolina its third goal of the match.

South Carolina outshot the Chanticleers 13-10 and held the advantage in corner kicks 7-3. Gamecock goalkeeper Michael Bachmeyer recorded two saves.

“This was a disappointing loss for our team,” commented Head Coach Mark Berson. “The team fought very hard and created a lot of scoring opportunities in the first half. They worked really hard throughout the course of the game.”

The men’s soccer team will play its second match of the College of Charleston Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1:00 p.m. The Gamecocks will take on the Eagles of Winthrop.
