The South Carolina women’s golf team fired a 301 Sunday to finish in eighth place at the Auburn Tiger Derby Invitational at the Auburn University Golf Course. The Lady Gamecocks finished with a team score of 900, two strokes better than top-ranked Oklahoma State and six strokes better than second-ranked Vanderbilt. Nineteenth-ranked Tennessee won the tournament (which featured 11 teams in the top 22) with a score of 871, seven strokes better of 10th-ranked Texas.

Junior Adrienne Gautreaux was the top finisher for the Lady Gamecocks after firing a four-over 76 on Sunday to finish with a total score of 223. Gautreaux finished in a tie for 15th place, just two strokes back of the Top 10. Defending SEC Champion Kristy McPherson also shot a 76 on Sunday to finish with a 224 and in a tie for 20th place.

Rounding out the Lady Gamecocks scores were junior Kory Thompson (76, 229, T40th), freshman Erica Battle (73, 233, T53rd) and junior Marci Robinson (86, 237, T62nd). Sophomore Tiffany Catafygiotu (playing as an individual only) shot an 80 on Sunday to finish with a 238 and in 65th place.

Tennessee finished in first place followed by Texas (878), with third-ranked Arizona (882) finishing in third place. Fifth-ranked Duke and fourth-ranked Auburn finished in a tie for fourth place with an 883. Florida finished in sixth place with an 889 and Southern California (897) in seventh place.

Celeste Troche (67) of Auburn and Violeta Retamoza (67) of Tennessee each recorded a tournament score of 211 to finish in a tie for first place. Erica Blasberg (72) of Arizona finished in third place with a 214 and V. Nirapathpongporn (69) of Duke finished in fourth place with a score of 215. Whitney Code (72) of Florida and Perry Swenson (71) of Texas finished in a tie for fifth place, each with a score of 216.
