Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s soccer head coach Mark Berson announces the hiring of assistant coach Bryan Cunningham. Cunningham comes from Appalachian State where he was an assistant coach with the Mountaineers for five years.
“We are very pleased to have Bryan joining our staff,” commented USC Head Coach Mark Berson. “He is an outstanding coach who has had an opportunity to work with some excellent coaches at Appalachian State during his tenure there, including former Gamecock assistant coach Dave Golan.”
Cunningham’s primary responsibility is as recruiting coordinator. Other duties include team training, match analysis and office administration.
While a three-time captain at Pfeiffer, he led the Falcons to a pair of CVAC championships and one national tournament appearance. Upon graduation, Cunningham trained with professional teams in England and Northern Ireland. He has been actively involved with the North Carolina Olympic Development Program since 1997. Before coming to ASU, Cunningham served as a volunteer assistant coach at Pfeiffer University.
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Cunningham earned a bachelor of arts degree in communication. He was a four-time scholar-athlete and Dean’s List recipient. He was also recognized in the Who’s Who Among American College Students for his efforts on the playing field and in the classroom. He is married to the former Amy Young of Allentown, Pa.
