The 19th ranked University of South Carolina women’s tennis team opened up the 2003 season with a 6-1 victory over the College of Charleston(0-2) on Wednesday night at the USC indoor athletic facility.

In doubles, South Carolina took all three double matches easily from the Cougars. Kathy Boyanovich and Magda Wojdylo defeated Gabriela Moreira and Maike Hartung 8-1 in the number one doubles match while Jodi Kenoyer and Catherine Brown took the number two match 8-1 over Rachel Magory and Lauren Stewart. In the number three doubles match, freshmen Danielle Wiggins and Justine Walsh defeated Whitney Malina and Emily Scatuorchio 8-2.

The match then went on to singles where the Gamecocks took five of the six matches played. Kathy Boyanovich, ranked 93rd in the Omni Hotels ITA poll came back to win the last two sets 6-1 after losing the first set to Rachel Magory 6-3. In the number two singles, Kenoyer defeated Moreira 6-1,6-2 while in match three Wiggins defeated Hartung 6-3, 6-1. The number four and five matches saw Wojdylo defeat Stewart and Brown defeating Malina 6-3, 7-5. The number six match was the only set back on the night for the Gamecocks as Scatuorchio defeated Walsh 6-4, 7-5,(10-5).

The win was the 299th win in the career for Arlo Elkins. The Gamecocks hit the road on February 5th to play Furman.
