The 20th-ranked South Carolina softball team (2-0) will hold the Carolina Invitational this weekend, Feb. 8-9 at Beckham Field. This is the final homestand for the Gamecocks for the month of February. Competing in the tournament are UNC-Greensboro, No. 19 Georgia Tech and Boston College. The Carolina Invitational is also “Family Day”. All children age12 and under get in free with a paying adult.

The tournament is the first contest of the season for all three visiting teams. USC has a combined 26-1 record against the teams competing. The Gamecocks won their first outing of the 2003 campaign last weekend when they defeated North Carolina 3-0 and 4-0 last Sunday.

Georgia Tech is the first ranked team that USC will play this season. It is the first time the Yellow Jackets have played in Columbia since 1998, and it will be the first meeting between the two teams since 1999. The last time Boston College was in Columbia was 1986. The Gamecocks and Eagles last matched up in 1999.
