Plant CIty, Fla. – USC ended a three-week stretch of invitational tournament play with a 8-4 victory over Virginia Tech at the Strawberry Festival tournament in Plant City, Florida.

Despite commiting four errors defensively, the Gamecock offense exploded for 12 hits. 2B Debralee Troesh lead the way, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. 3B Danielle Quinones was 3-for-3, including 2 doubles and an RBI and 1B Meghan Cornett added an RBI with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. SS Amber Curtis and CF Jodi Fittro scored and batted in one run apiece.

Pitcher Melanie Henkes turned in another solid performance on the mound. The freshman from Aiken pitched all seven innings, giving up four runs, three of those earned, on nine hits while only walking one batter.

USC returns to Beckham Field on Wednesday to face Virginia in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
