Columbia, S.C. – The USC Equestrian team finished third in Western and fourth in Hunt Seat in Zone 5 Region II. Auburn University won both disciplines to progress them into postseason competition at the Zone 5 Finals. South Carolina Freshman Courtney Borton was named Reserve High Point Western Regional Rider behind Auburn’s Crystal Pope. Senior Sarah Tomasi finished third in Hunt Seat high point regional rider behind Auburn’s Lindsey Neubartt and Gerogia’s Collins Day.

“Although I am disappointed with our finish in both disciplines, I am very pleased that our team improved throughout the year,” said USC head coach Boo Duncan. “As we progress toward championship status in the NCAA out team will get stronger.”

Carolina qualified 13 individuals for postseason competition. Senior Jessica Keels qualified in both Hunt Seat and Western in novice flat and intermediate horsemanship. Sophomore Lindsey Weathers qualified in both disciplines as well – intermediate horsemanship and advanced WTC.

Junior Lindsey Wilson qualified in both novice flat and novice fences. Other qualifiers in Western were sophomore Kerrie Reeves in advanced horsemanship, freshman Courtney Borton in open horsemanship and junior Kyra Hufford in intermediate horsemanship.

Other Hunt Seat qualifiers were senior Brooke Spitzer and sophomore Molly Harrison in intermediate flat. Junior Lisa Boykin will compete in novice fences and Lisa Wilson in novice flat.

“We have a strong group of regional qualifiers,” said Coach Duncan. “I am hoping the majority will progress to Zones. If we get good draws and have good judging we will do well.
