The University of South Carolina women’s tennis team received letter of intents from four players during the 2002 Fall signing period. The Gamecocks received letter of intents from Laura Ganzer (Germany), Miranda Guittarez (Tampa, Florida), Christyn Lucas (Miami, Florida), and Grace Blakely (Reading Pennsylvania). The players will enroll in the fall of 2003.

Miranda Guittarez 5’11 Tampa, Florida Tampa Catholic High School

– Finished 26th in the 16 year old division last year in the nation
– Finished 4th in Florida
– Currently 115th on the Junior Seeding/Selection List in the 18 year old division
– Won the Gatorade Will to Win Athlete
– Andres Garcia Memorial Tennis Award
– MVP and Coaches Award on High School Tennis Team

– First Team All-County In Hillsborough

Christyn Lucas 5’3 Miami, Florida Gulliver Preparatory School

– High School State Champion in 2002
– High School Team MVP in 2001 and 2002
– High School All-American in 2001 and 2002
– 1st Team All-Dade County in 2001 and 2002
– Winner of the Florida State Closed Championships in 2002
– Ranked #1 in the USTA Florida girls 18 and under division in 2002
– Has a 3.6 GPA in High School

Grace Blakely 5’6 Reading, Pennsylvania Wyomissing High School

– 2002 undefeated and ranked #1 in USTA Middle States in the girl 18 year old division (won 10 straight MSTA tournaments and 42 straight matches in singles)
– Ranked #1 in MSTA doubles in the girls 18 year old division
– 2002 individual Pennsylvania High School Champion
– 3 time state team champion at Wyomissing High School
– Ranked #99 nationally in the girls 18 year old division
– Ranked 15th in the nation in doubles nationally
– 1600 SAT score
– currently taking five advanced placement courses in high school
– 4.4 GPA in High School
– #1 in Pennsylvania Math League
– Awarded the McNair Scholarship; A full scholarship that is awarded to 20 students throughout the nation.
