Columbia, S.C. – The Southeastern Conference announced South Carolina junior Stacey Johnson SEC Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 30. This marks the second time this season that Johnson has earned this recognition. The Newtown, Pa. native went 3-0 in four games, recorded 10 strikeouts and posted a 0.34 ERA for the week.
Her victories include one over Arkansas and two over Auburn, including a 4-0 shutout, her third of the season. Johnson pitched three complete games, giving her a total of eight for the season. This marks the third pitcher of the week honor for Carolina this season. Johnson is the first Carolina pitcher to earn this honor twice in one season since former standout Megan Matthews did it in 2001.
The Gamecocks (24-8, 8-3 SEC) host Tennessee on Tuesday at 5 p.m. and Wednesday at 4 p.m. and travel to Lexington, Ky. this weekend for a three-game series.
