South Carolina hosts Florida, Tennessee and Vanderbilt at this Saturday’s SEC Quad Meet at the Weems Baskin Track and Field in Columbia. The meet is USC’s premier home event, featuring the top teams in the SEC’s East Division. Field events begin at 10:30 a.m. and running events are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children.

“This will be a big meet and a big showdown at our home track,” said head coach Curtis Frye. “We are going to have to have a great meet at our facility against Florida and Tennessee. They are going to ready to compete, but so will we. We want to show our fans our best against the nation’s best.”

The Gamecocks rewrote the record books at last weekend’s Florida Relays in Gainesville. USC accounted for three event records and three facility records on its way to recording 13 first-place finishes, 40 top-10 finishes and 19 NCAA Regional qualifiers over four days of competition at the University of Florida.

Freshman Kenneth Ferguson recorded a personal-best time of 49.27 in the 400m Hurdles at the Florida Relays in Gainesville. That marks currently stands as the top time in the nation, making Ferguson the third USC athlete to hold a top national mark during 2003.

A pair of USC athletes recorded top national marks on March 22 at the Weems Baskin Relays in Columbia. Corey Taylor recorded the nation’s best 110m hurdles time, running a 13.84 on day two of the meet. Antoinette Wilks posted the nation’s top long jump of 6.75m/21-4.75 ft. during Saturday competition at the home meet. Her jump is a new school record, besting her own mark of 21-3.25 ft. set in 2002. Each held the nation’s top mark for one week.

Last season, South Carolina’s women won the NCAA Outdoor Championship, the first national title at the university. This season at the NCAA Indoor Championships, the women finished second while the men placed fifth.

The Gamecocks will conclude their home schedule on Wed., April 9 with the South Carolina State Championships.
