Gainesville, FL – The 3rd ranked Florida Gators cruised past the 37th ranked Gamecocks 7-0 on Saturday morning at Linder Stadium at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville. The win improved Florida to 22-2 overall and 10-1 in the SEC while USC dropped to 12-9 overall and 5-6 in the SEC. The win was the 21st in a row against South Carolina.
The Gators took an early 1-0 advantage in the match after winning all three double matches. Lindsay Dawaf and Julia Scaringe defeated Catherine Brown and Audrey George 8-0 while the 30th ranked team of Jennifer Magley and Zerene Reyes defeated Kathy Boyanovich and Jodi Kenoyer 8-3 to clinch the doubles point for the Gators. Alexis Gordon and Julie Rotondi won at number two doubles 8-3 to give the Gators their 12th doubles sweep of the season.
In singles, the Gators went up 2-0 when Alexis Gordon defeated Magda Wojdylo 6-0,6-0. Julia Scaringe, ranked 41st in the country defeated 118th ranked Kathy Boyanovich 6-1,6-3 to put the Gators up 3-0. 17th ranked Alexis Gordon clinched the victory for Florida with a 6-1,6-2 win over Catherine Brown at number five. Boglarka Berecz defeated Justine Walsh 6-3,6-4 at court on six while #28 Julie Rotondi dropped the first set to Jodi Kenoyer 7-5 but came back to defeat Kenoyer 7-5, and 10-4 in the super tie-breaker at number two singles.
The Gamecocks return to action next Thursday in the SEC Tournament. The bracket pairings for the tournament and times will be released Sunday afternoon.
