Recap

Head Coach Curtis Frye
On the USATF Championships-“Our athletes have had an excellent competition. We had some kids that did not make it to the finals but they gained great experience that they can take into next year.”

On Tiffany Ross-“Tiffany had a tremendous season. She had to run too many races over the past two meets and ran out of gas. She is one of the top hurdlers in the nation and I hope she will have an opportunity to prove that next season without having to go through the same competition format.”

On the men’s 110m hurdlers-“It was a great day for Corey Taylor. We are glad to see him back. By running a personal best time he proved that he is back in form. Unfortunately, Charles Ryan strained a hamstring and had to shut it down during the race.”

On Dawn Ellerbe’s third-place finish-“Dawn is going on to the World Championships for the third time which is an incredible achievement. It is the best performance by a Carolina graduate. She has been great to have around as a volunteer assistant coach because she is a great example to our athletes of what it takes to be successful.”

On Otis Harris-“He injured his hamstring warming up for the meet. We wanted him to go out on a good note after running so well last weekend at the NCAA’s and finishing second. I am very proud of him after running personal records in every race during that meet. He is the fastest 400m runner I have ever coached and we wanted him to go out this season as a hero, not as an injured athlete.”

Tiffany Ross (400m Hurdles)
On the semifinal race-“It was very disappointing to not reach the finals. I ran a horrible race and crashed into the second hurdle, so there were not any positives. I did not feel as good as I felt yesterday. Today it felt like my body was not in it.”

Erica Whipple (100m Dash)
On the semifinal race-“It was a good competition, but my legs are through. The fatigue from the past two meets has set in. It would have been nice to reach the finals, but it did not happen for me.”

Corey Taylor (110m Hurdles)
On his first round race-“I think my race went well. I did not think that I ran as fast as I did, but I had a lifetime best time. I feel go about my time and moving into the semifinals where I can hopefully do it again.”
