South Carolina track and field will be well represented at the 2003 IAAF World Championships with numerous representatives set to begin competition on Saturday, Aug. 23.


WHAT: The IAAF World Track and Field Championships

WHERE: Paris, France

WHEN: Aug. 23-31, 2003

WHO: One dozen athletes and two coaches with USC ties will be represented at the Championships.

Women: Aleen Bailey (Jamaica), Lisa Barber (USA), Dawn Ellerbe (USA), Michelle Fournier (Canada), Lisa Misipeka (American Samoa), Demetria Washington (USA), Tonique Williams (Bahamas)

Men: Adrian Durant (U.S. Virgin Islands), Allen Johnson (USA), Otukile Lekote (Botswana),Brad Snyder (Canada), Terrence Trammell (USA)

Coaches: Curtis Frye and Mike Sergent

WORLD RANKINGS: Nine athletes with USC ties are among the elite.

Aleen Bailey: 18th-200m; 23rd-100m
Lisa Barber: 38th-400m
Dawn Ellerbe: 16th-Hammer
Lisa Misipeka: 21st-Hammer
Demetria Washington: 11th-400m
Tonique Williams: 8th-400m

Allen Johnson: 1st-110m Hurdles
Brad Snyder: 11th-Shot Put
Terrence Trammell: 12th-110m Hurdles
