CHARLOTTE, N.C. – With new crop of runners highlighting the field, the Carolina Gamecocks showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with as they finished third at the Charlotte Invitational Saturday morning. The Gamecocks also defeated arch-rival Clemson by 20 points in the first meet of the 2003 season.
In the relay-style meet, the team of Junior Jenny Lake and Freshman Karen Wigal finished fourth overall with a time of 21:57. Freshman Nicki Breeves Junior Mary Claire Utsey placed 16th overall with a time of 23:20 while the pair of Sophomore Lauren Paige and Senior Mary Wright finished immediately following Breeves and Utsey, placing 17th overall with a time of 23:22.
The Gamecocks return home next week, hosting the South Carolina Invitational at Owens Field. The meet is set to begin on Friday, September 5 at 6:30 p.m.
