Columbia, S.C. – After one round of action at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga., the University of South Carolina men’s golf team is tied for sixth place after shooting a 297. The tournament, hosted by Georgia Tech, will continue through Sunday with 18 holes being played each day.
Clemson is in first place after firing an opening round 289. UNLV is in second place after shooting a 294 followed by Florida, Texas, and Georgia Tech. The Gamecocks are tied with Georgia for sixth place in the 18-team field.
Leading the charge for the Gamecocks was Martin Rominger. Rominger fired a one-under-par score of 71. His round, which included four birdies, was good enough to leave him in a tie for fifth place. Alex Hamilton and West Streib finished their rounds at three-over-par 75 to put them in a tie for 35th. One stroke behind Hamilton and Streib was sophomore Eirik Johansen. Johansen’s 76 leaves him in a tie for 44th place. Rounding out the scoring for the Gamecocks was Matt Robinson who fired a 79.
