Columbia, S.C – The South Carolina Equestrian team travels to Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga.this weekend Oct. 18-19 to compete in their second IHSA event of the year. The Gamecocks competed in their first IHSA event back in September when they hosted at the Irish Oaks Equestrian Centre.
” Berry will be very tough competition this weekend,” said head coach Boo Duncan. “The judging was close last year and will be close again this year. We will have to have people step up in place of some injuries we have had. Clemson will also be more of a threat this week as they will have more riders competiting than they did back in September. I am confident we will go out there and give it our best.”
The Gamecocks are coming off a tough loss to Georgia in a head-to-head competition where they lost by the close score of 1072- 1053.25 points. In the hunt seat section of the competition,Tara Brothers lead USC with 78 points. In the western part of the competition, Rachel Sternoff led in both reining and horsemanship classes.
The competition will also feature Clemson, Wallace State and Lander. The event begins Saturday at 8:30 and lasts until 4p.m. On Saturday the format will be hunt seat first, followed by western, and Sunday it will be western, followed by hunt seat.
