The 24th-ranked South Carolina women’s golf team shot a 19-over-par 307 Monday in the second round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Knoxville, Tennessee, to finish tied with host Tennessee for 11th place with a two-day total score of 611. The Gamecocks are only 23 strokes off the pace of new leader Ohio State at 588.
Team captain Adrienne Gautreaux is still in the mix for the individual title as she is tied for sixth place with a two-day score of 146. After opening the tournament with a one-under-par 71, Gautreaux recorded a 75 on Monday for her two-over-par total. She is only four strokes off the leader, Allison Hanna of Ohio State (73-69=142).
Playing in her first collegiate tournament, freshman Jenna Pearson came back Monday with a 78 after a first-day score of 76 to remain tied for 42nd place (154, +10). Junior Tiffany Catafygiotu improved her Sunday score by one stroke Monday with her 77. Catafygiotu is tied for 48th with a 155 (+11). Two Gamecocks are tied for 57th place as Laura McCaslin and Erica Battle, competing as an individual, are knotted at a 12-over par 156 after two days. Senior Marci Robinson is tied for 81st after a second day 82.
The Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship is a 6,021-yard, par 72 tournament that runs Sunday through Tuesday, October 19-21st. The 52-hole tournament is played at Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee.
South Carolina will conclude the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Collegiate Championships on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. ET and will be paired with Southeastern Conference rivals Tennessee and Louisiana State.
