University of South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Susan Walvius announced Wednesday the signing of Ilona Burgrova to a national letter of intent during the fall early signing period. Burgrova is a native of Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic and is a 6’6 center.
“Ilona has played on the Czech Junior National Team and National Teams for the past six years,” said Gamecock coach Susan Walvius. “We have watched her progress each year during the summer evaluation period. We are absolutely thrilled to have Ilona coming to USC. She will bring a great deal of size and strength to our inside game. To give people an idea of her talent, Ilona travelled on a touring team from the Czech Republic last year as a sophomore in high school. She scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds against Stephen F. Austin and scored 14 points in the win over Ole Miss. Ilona is arguably the best post player in Europe at her age.”
