Dave Odom, South Carolina: “I think our performance tonight is a product of us not having enough practice time. We’ve played four games in 7-8 days. That keeps you in game shape. But, you also need to be in practice shape. When your offense is not going very good, then you can lean on your defense. This was a good win for us. South Carolina State and Coach Ben Betts will get things right. I’m very pleased where we are record-wise right now. I like the fact that we have 4-5 days off now. We come back on Dec. 27 at 5 p.m. The Christmas break can give you an opportunity to get better and that’s what we intend to do. When we get back, we are going to work hard, both fundamentally and on our execution.”

Ben Betts, South Carolina State: “South Carolina is a very good team. They have a lot of speed, and they have very good bench play. They are very athletic but overall just a very good basketball team. Tonight we didn’t defend well and we didn’t get good shot selection. Their defense was very good and it made very easy baskets for them. They are a heck of a basketball team. These type of teams will help us in the long run. We try to get better each ball game. We want to do well but a lot of coaches play these types of teams to see how their team progresses.”
