Recap?|? Final Stats?|? Notes
Tennessee Coach Pat Summitt
“The first half was one of the better halves of basketball that we have played this season. We had a great run to end the half. It was good to see us apply what we have been working on in practice to the game. I am proud of our team for competing like we did tonite. Loree Moore was terrific tonite. She knew when to push the tempo and hold it up. Our team has been focused on the road this year with the exception of Mississippi State and we learned a lot from that. Defensive intensity was the key to the game. We had great ball pressure tonite.”
(On Lauren Simms) “She is very good off of the dribble. She can create her own shots and does a good job of finishing.”
South Carolina Coach Susan Walvius
“I am really unhappy with the mental toughness of this team tonight. We didn’t do the little things that you need to win a basketball game – rebounding, defense, boxing out. Those things are necessary to win. We needed to have better defense tonight, that’s number one. We didn’t get after loose balls, we threw balls away, we had a lot of careless turnovers, floaty passes and overall poor decisions. We had a really good game plan and we just didn’t execute. We are a lot better basketball team then what we played tonight. We have a talented team.”
(on Lauren Simms) “Lauren played excellent basketball tonight. She played the best that I have seen in a game. I think our younger players were a bit intimidated, but not Lauren.”
