The University of South Carolina women’s golf team took home a second-place finish Sunday in the Lady Gamecock Classic, held at the University Club in Blythewood, SC. The Gamecocks shot a 914 (+50) over the three rounds to finish nine strokes behind North Carolina.

The Tar Heels came from five strokes back of USC Saturday to overtake the Gamecocks and never lost the lead again. UNC shot a 905 (+41) over the 54 holes for its second consecutive team title in the last two weeks (last weekend’s LSU/Cleveland Classic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana). It was the first Lady Gamecock Classic title for North Carolina.

North Carolina’s Ashley Prange led the field for all three rounds and captured the Individual Medalist honors with a three-over-par 219. Gamecock Adrienne Gautreaux finished in a tie with UNC’s Katie Miller for second place just three strokes back at 222 (+6). Gautreaux also captured second place in last weekend’s LSU/Classic.

Sophomore Erica Battle took home a career-high fifth place finish as the Columbia-native shot a 226 (+10) with two career-best rounds of 75 on the first two days. Teammate Jenna Pearson captured her first Top 20 Finish as the freshman tied for 15th place with a 230 (+14). Pearson shot an even par 72 in the first round for the best score of her young USC career. Tiffany Catafygiotu tied for 26th with a 236 (+20) while Kory Thompson shot a 250 (+34) to tie for a share of 55th place.

In addition to its team of five, South Carolina also entered three individuals in the tournament. Megan Miller fired a four-over par 76, a career-high, on day three to end up with a 242 (+26) and in a tie for 40th place. Marci Robinson tied for 45th place with a 245 (+29) while Laura McCaslin was just two strokes back, with a 247 (+31) and a 48th place finish.
