Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore OF Michael Campbell has been named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball following his performance this past week. Campbell tied a USC single game record for home runs in a game with three in the Gamecocks’ 12-1 win at Wofford. Campbell had a career-high five hits in the game as well as a career-high six RBI. Campbell also had two home runs this weekend at Arkansas, including a game-winning two-run HR in USC’s 10-2 win on Sunday afternoon.
Campbell is batting .333 (32-for-96) on the season with 10 home runs and 30 RBI. Campbell is one of four South Carolina players this season to start and play in all 25 games this year.
South Carolina (21-4, 2-4 SEC) is ranked No. 6 in the latest Baseball America poll released this afternoon and No. 11 in the Collegiate Baseball poll. The Gamecocks return to the diamond on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. with a non-conference tilt vs. North Carolina (20-6) at Knight’s Castle in Ft. Mill, S.C. The game will be broadcast on the Gamecock Radio Network including 103.1 FM and 1320 AM in Columbia.
