Columbia,S.C. – The University of South Carolina equestrian team will travel to Rome, Ga. April 3-4 to compete in the Zone 5 IHSA Finals. The competition will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.

The Gamecocks competed twice in Rome earlier in the season and have performed well in Georgia. The team won the Western and Hunt Seat competitions in October and in their last IHSA competition in February against Berry, the Gamecocks finished second while in the process of qualifying for Zone Finals.

The Gamecocks will have a mix of young and experienced riders travleing to Berry this weekend led by junior Tara Brothers. In the last IHSA outing, Brothers was named High Point Rider in Hunt Seat as well as in the region. Freshman Rachel Sternoff was named reserve High Point rider in Western.

The Gamecocks will compete in the Varsity Equestrian Championships on April 23-24 in Conyers,Ga. The Gamecocks will co-host the event with the Georgia Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers. The time for the Varsity Championships has yet to be announced.
