April 1, 2004

The University of South Carolina women’s golf team will participate in the 2004 Bryan National Collegiate Tournament Friday, April 2nd through Sunday, April 4th as the final tune-up before next month’s SEC Championships. Co-hosted by Wake Forest and North Carolina-Greensboro, the seventh annual Bryan National Collegiate takes place at the par 72, 6064 yard Bryan Park Champions Course in Browns Summit, North Carolina.

Competition begins Friday morning with teams teeing off from 8:30 a.m. to 10:43 a.m. at holes No. 1 and No. 10. Second-round tee times are the same on Saturday, with Sunday’s final round featuring a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. Eighteen teams are competing this weekend, including 12 teams currently ranked among the nation’s top 25 and 25 of the top 50 players in the individual rankings.

The Gamecocks start teeing off Friday at 8:30 a.m. and fans can follow the action hole-by-hole through GolfStat (www.golfstat.com). USC will be represented by senior Adrienne Gautreaux, freshman Jenna Pearson, freshman Megan Miller, sophomore Erica Battle and senior Kory Thompson. Gautreaux is currently ranked 28th in the latest GolfWeek poll.

In last year’s Bryan National, USC finished in a tie for 6th place in a rain-shortened two round event as Duke captured the team championship. Gamecock Kristy McPherson was invovled in a three-way tie for the individual title but lost to Wake Forest’s Nuria Clau in the playoff.

Last weekend, South Carolina finished in 11th place in the Liz Murphey Invitational in Athens, Georgia. The Gamecocks rallied in the final round as last week’s SEC Golfer of the Week Adrienne Gautreaux tied her career high with a 69 while Erica Battle added a personal-best 72 and Megan Miller shot a 73 Sunday.
