The University of South Carolina women’s golf team shot an eight-over-par 296 in Sunday’s final round of the 2004 SEC Championships to earn a seventh place finish at the par 72, 6300-yard University Club course in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. South Carolina shot a 300 Saturday and a 303 in Friday’s opening round for a three-day total of 899 (+35).
Vanderbilt held onto its lead from Saturday to capture the team championship with a 877 (+13) over the 54 holes while first-round leader Violeta Retamoza fired a one-under-par 71 to reclaim the lead and take home the individual title with a three-under-par 213.
In her first appearance at the SEC Championships, sophomore Erica Battle fired a 71 on day three and moved up into a tie for 20th with teammate Adrienne Gautreaux. Both players ended with a 224 for the three-day tournament. Senior Marci Robinson finished only one stroke back with a three-day total of 225 and tied for 26th place. Freshman Jenna Pearson grabbed a share of 31st place with a 227 with senior Kory Thompson finishing in 49th place with a 234.
South Carolina will now wait to see if they will earn a sixth consecutive bid to the NCAA Regionals. For all 12 team results at the SEC Championships, please check the Golfstat website (www.golfstat.com).
