The University of South Carolina women’s tennis team travels to Clemson to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday at 10am. The Gamecocks enter the match with a 13-9 record overall while the Demon Deacons are 11-11 and ranked 30th in the country.

The Gamecocks hold a 9-7 edge over the Deacons in the all-time series. The meeting on Saturday will be the first between the two teams since February 27, 2001 in Winston-Salem. The last meeting between the two teams in the NCAA Tournament was on May 16, 1999 in Columbia where the Gamecocks took a 5-2 win.

The 2004 NCAA Tournament appearance is Carolina’s 14th overall and 10th consecutive appearance. The 10 straight appearances to the big dance is the 11th longest active streak in NCAA Division I women’s tennis. The winner of the South Carolina-Wake Forest match will play the winner of the Clemson-Troy State match at 1pm on Sunday.
