Columbia, SC – Fresh of their first-ever Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament championship, the South Carolina Gamecocks have been tabbed as the #2 national seed in the 2004 NCAA Baseball Championships. USC (45-15) will square off against The Citadel (38-26) this Friday at 7 p.m. at Sarge Frye Field in Columbia in first round regional play. The Columbia Regional’s first game on Friday features North Carolina (41-19) and Coastal Carolina (40-21) at 2 p.m. All reserved seats for this regional have been sold pending distribution to the three visiting teams, however, standing room only tickets are still available. Ticket books are $60 for adults and $40 for youth. Orders may be placed at the USC Athletic Ticket Office on Rosewood Drive or by calling 1-800-4SC-FANS.

USC is 2-0 vs. The Citadel this season, having defeated the Bulldogs 5-2 in Columbia and 6-1 in 10 innings in Charleston. The Gamecocks defeated North Carolina 9-4 earlier this year in a game played at Ft. Mill. USC and Coastal Carolina did not meet this season.

This marks the 20th appearance in the NCAA baseball playoffs for the Gamecocks. Columbia will be serving as a host site for the regionals for the 10th time.
