The Citadel Quotes

Coach Fred Jordan

I thought South Carolina was very good tonight. They have a swagger to them and they are a very special ball club. I thought that the turning point was Davy Gregg’s catch in the fourth inning.

(on Brendan Winn’s throw from the outfield)
The ballpark was very electric tonight. We were trying to get some runs and gain some momentum and they made a great throw from the outfield.

Chip Cannon

(on playing the early game on Saturday)
The good thing about playing tomorrow is that we have our number one pitcher (Jonathan Ellis) going for us. We will try to get some runs and gain a little momentum.

Ken Egleton

(on Steve Pearce’s homerun)
I threw Pearce a curveball and left it up over the plate and he hit it out of the ballpark.

South Carolina Quotes

Coach Ray Tanner
I think, from a coach’s standpoint, that game was a lot closer than the final score indicates. I thought Egleton was about to settle down there, and he came out and pitched very strong at the beginnig for them. The Winn assist from right field to get their kid at home was huge for us tonight. The Mahoney home run was huge for us offensively, and Pearce’s home run was a big help. I don’t have any oxygen left in me. I am out of breath from that game.

(on home runs)
I saw in the Coastal Carolina-North Carolina game earlier that there were a lot of well-hit balls to the warning track that I thought would get out of the park with some help. The ball really started to carry well in our game. It was hard for everyone to hit home runs in Birmingham last week, and we knew that home runs would help us in our game plan coming into the regional. We got it going in a big way tonight.

Steve Pearce
We got off to a good start tonight. This is a big win for this team. Our offense was seeing the ball well, and I think we did a good job of getting some timely hits. We got the ball rolling, and it’s good to be able to get a win in game 1.

Aaron Rawl
They scored a few runs on me tonight, and I thought they swung the bats well. They’re a good ball club. After I settled in, I was able to throw more strikes and let the offense take care of things for us. Our bats did a good job tonight, and it’s definitely easier to pitch out there with 12 runs to support you.

I thought it was just a matter of me being able to execute my pitches tonight to get a win. My off speed pitches were working good for me. I can’t say that I dominated them out there since they had a lot of hits, but it was just a matter of getting them to hit the ball at people.
