South Carolina
– 7-1 in its last eight games against the Tar Heels. Winning six in a row.
– Steve Pearce went six for ten in the NCAA Regional with three hits being home runs. He drove in nine runs on the weekend.
– The Gamecocks are 16-2 in NCAA Regional games since 2000. (not including Super Regionals or College World Series games) The Gamecocks went 3-0 in their regionals in 2000, 2003, and 2004.
– Carolina extended its current winning streak to eight games.
– Mark Stanley has five hits on the season with three of them coming in the 2004 NCAA Regional.
– Advances to the 2004 NCAA Super Regional against the winner of the Kinston Regional. It is the fifth consecutive season that the Gamecocks have won their regional and advanced to a Super Regional.
– Against UNC on Saturday, the USC pitching staff broke the school record of 587 srike outs in a season. (2002 in 75 games) Carolina now has 609 K’s in 63 games.
– Jason Fletcher pitched against UNC twice this season, with the other appearance coming in the regular season game. In the two games, he totaled nine innings pitched, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks, while striking out 12.
North Carolina
– UNC leads the all-time series with South Carolina 58-33-1
– The Tar Heels finished with a 43-21 during in the 2004 season.
– Eliminated from the 2004 NCAA Tournament after going 2-2 in the 2004 Columbia Regional.
– The 2004 NCAA Tournament appearance was its 19th overall and it was the second-straight postseason trip. The Tar Heels made the regional final in both of those appearances. In 2002, they lost to USC in the regional final while they defeated Mississippi State in 2003 to advance to the Super Regional.
