Sept. 22, 2004

Columbia, SC – Cross Country runner senior Jenny Lake will talk about how she balances athletics and academics, while trying to maintain a social life in a feature story to air on Fox Sports Net on Thursday, September 23.

SEC-TV reporter Dave Neal visited with Lake and the cross country team Saturday, September 12 for a segment to air on the live, weekly, half-hour Southeastern conference magazine program originating from FSN South’s Atlanta studio.

The feature on Lake will address her understanding that while NCAA wins are forgotten, academics will propel her to greater heights that will influence the rest of her life. Neal investigates how Lake balances her studies while running cross country and attempting to have a normal social life.

Lake, who led her team to second place finishes in the first two meets of the season, finished first and second in the 5k runs with times of 18:00.68 and 18:16.70, respectively. Last season, Lake earned SEC All-Conference and NCAA All-Region honors, while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average and also being named Academic All-American by both the NCAA and the US Coaches Association in the spring and fall.

The SEC-TV show featuring Lake will air live on Thursday, September 23 at 6:30 p.m. eastern time and will re-air on Friday, September 24 at 12:30 a.m.
