Sunriver, Ore. – South Carolina freshman Caroline Rominger shot a one-over-par 72 in the final round at the Mercedes Benz of Bend NCAA Women’s Golf Fall Preview, held at the Meadows Golf Course at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore., Wednesday.
As a team, the Gamecocks finished 17th out of the 21 teams competing.
Rominger improved her score each day of the tournament from six-over in round one to five-over in round two and one-over in the third and final round to finish the tournament with a 12-over-par 225.
She started Wednesday’s action with three consecutive pars, then went double-bogey, birdie, bogey on holes four, five and six respectively. She notched three more pars before getting a birdie on the par-five 10th hole, achieving par on the 11th and securing another birdie on the par-four 12th to bring her score to even par. A bogey on the par-four 15th was the only blemish on her scorecard the rest of the day.
Senior Tiffany Catafygiotu and sophomore Jenna Pearson were also solid on Wednesday, with both players finishing with a three-over-par 74 for the second consecutive day, respectively.
Catafygiotu, who stood at even par through the first 12 holes after a birdie on the par-four fifth and a bogey on the par-three eighth, followed a bogey on 13 with a double-bogey on the 14th to bring her score to three-over. She rebounded down the stretch to achieve par on each of the final four holes.
As for Pearson, who finished the tournament with a team-best three-round score of 217, she was steadily at par through the first six holes before suffering a triple-bogey seven on the seventh hole. Following calmly with seven consecutive pars, she bogeyed the par-four 15th hole before going par, birdie, par to close out the day at three-over.
Also competing for the Gamecocks were freshman Laura Raffo, who finished at seven-over on the day and sophomore Megan Miller, who came in at eight-over for the day.
South Carolina returns to action October 1 at the Mason Rudolph Challenge in Nashville.
