On Saturday, February 5th South Carolina hosted a competition against Georgia at One Wood Farm in Blythewood, SC. The two schools rode head to head from 1-5pm leaving Georgia as the winner.

The final scores were evidence of how evenly matched the teams were. Georgia bested USC by only 16.3 points in a 1206.09 to 1189.79 victory.

In these competitions, the rider with the highest score is not the most important. The rider who rides the horse significantly better and earns the most points compared to her opponent on the same horse is called the point spread winner. The point spread winners in equitation on the flat and horsemanship were Georgia’s Rachel Berkowitz and Dana Kennedy. Bulldog, Sarah Meier was another winner in reining. For the Gamecocks, Kristen Terebesi earned the title of point spread winner in the equitation over fences portion.

“It was a tough loss, but I believe the girls rode to best of their abilities. It really was a close competition,” said head coach Boo Duncan.

The Gamecocks will travel to West Texas A&M in Armarillo, Texas for their next competition on February 20th.
