THE BASICS
The South Carolina women’s golf team opens the Spring portion of its schedule this weekend when it travels to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the Sun Trust Lady Gator Invitational on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the University Course.

HOW TO GET RESULTS
Results will be posted to the official web site of South Carolina athletics, www.uscsports.com, at the conclusion of each day.

THE LINEUP
Competing for the Gamecocks this week are sophomore Jenna Pearson, junior Erica Battle, senior Tiffany Catafygiotu and freshmen Whitney Simons and Caroline Rominger.

GAMECOCKS IN THE RANKINGS
As a team, South Carolina finished the Fall season ranking ninth in the SEC with a 304.67 stroke average. Junior Erica Battle is the lone ranked among the top 100 players nationally in GolfWeek’s latest rankings (Feb. 27). Her 74.50 stroke average ranks 70th nationally and 22nd among all Southeastern Conference golfers. Sophomore Jenna Pearson ranks 29th in the SEC with a 75.08 stroke average. Freshman Blythe Worley and senior Tiffany Catafygiotu also rank among the top 50 in the SEC in terms of stroke average, with Worley ranking 40th at 76.33 and Catafygiotu 48th at 76.89.

YOUTH IS KING AT USC
The South Carolina roster is dotted by only one senior, two juniors, one sophomore and six freshmen.

FALL RECAP
South Carolina competed in four tournaments during the Fall, with its best showing coming at the ACC/SEC Challenge in Sandestin, Fla., where the Gamecocks finished seventh out of 16 teams. Battle highlighted the individual performances for USC during the Fall by taking 11th at the ACC/SEC Challenge with a 72-73-73=218. Pearson also secured a top-20 finish when she took 14th at the NCAA Fall Preview with a 69-74-74=217.
