Gainesville, Fla. – With day one action complete at the Sun Trust Lady Gator Invitational, the South Carolina women’s golf team sits in seventh place out of 18 teams and is 15 strokes off the lead with a team score of 309 at the University of Florida Golf Course.

Competing for the Gamecocks are junior Erica Battle, sophomore Jenna Pearson, freshman Caroline Rominger, freshman Whitney Simons and senior Tiffany Catafygiotu.

Battle led the way Friday with a five-over 75, notching a birdie on the par-four first hole. She is in a tie for 13th on the individual leaderboard.

Pearson and Rominger are in a tie for 33rd on the individual leaderboard with identical seven-over-par 77s. Overall, Pearson was solid, but took a pair of double-bogey sixes on the course’s 14th and 17th holes, respectively.

Simons fired a 10-over-par 80, with Catafygiotu carding a 12-over-par 82. Simons’ day was highlighted by a birdie on the course’s par-five third hole.

Round two action resumes tomorrow.
