Knoxville, Tenn. – The University of South Carolina women’s tennis team dropped to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in the SEC with a 5-2 loss to the 25th ranked Tennessee Lady Vols on Friday in Knoxville. The win improved the Vols to 12-5 and 5-2 in conference play.
The Volunteers took two of the three double contest to earn an early 1-0 advantage over the Gamecocks. Fallon Koon and Danielle Wiggins took the only win for the Gamecocks in doubles with a 9-7 victory over Melissa Schaub and Ghizela Schutte. Miranda Gutierrez and Megan McGavock fell short 9-7 at three while Christyn Lucas and Magda Wojdylo suffered an 8-5 defeat.
The Gamecocks managed only two victories in singles action. Miranda Gutierrez took a 6-2,7-5 win at three against Bryce Marable. Megan McGavock took a three set victory over Ghizela Schutte.
Carolina travels to Athens to face the Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday at 1pm.
