Box Score

Athens, Ga. – South Carolina softball surrendered two home runs to the No. 10 Georgia Bulldogs as they fell 6-1 in game two of the Tuesday doubleheader. USC was held to two hits for the second time on the night and fell to 24-16 and 7-7 in the SEC. The Bulldogs improved to 35-8 and 16-1. Kate Pouliot (6-6) gave up six runs on nine hits while Kasi Carroll (8-3) allowed one run to the Gamecocks.

The Bulldogs jumped on the board in the first inning after Pouliot gave up a one-out single to Katie Lewis and a home run to Kim Wendland as UGA went up 2-0.

South Carolina was then able to string together some hits in the third inning when Margaret Person led off with a single and Jessica Josker then came through with an RBI one out single. The hit scored Person from second and cut the lead in half for the Gamecocks, 2-1. Meghan Cornett kept the inning alive as she reached base on a catcher’s interference call but the Gamecocks were unable to execute as a fly out and a ground out ended the inning and stranded two runners on base.

Georgia extended its lead to 3-1 in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI-single by Megan McAllister. After the third inning, Carroll would hold USC hitless for the remainder of the game and the Gamecocks would manage only two more base runners.

In the fifth, McAllister added her second hit of the game when she hit a two run home run, which also scored Lewis for the third time in the game and the Bulldogs posted a 5-1 lead. In the sixth inning, UGA was able to take advantage of one of the Gamecocks’ four errors in the game. Charvi Greer led off the inning with a walk and after she stole second and advanced to third on a groundout, Greer was able to score on an error by Ashley Smith when Smith attempted to make a play at third and overthrew the ball.

The Gamecocks went down in order in the seventh and suffered their third conference series loss of the year.

The series will conclude at 5 p.m. on Wednesday with game three. It can be followed live via the Internet at uscsports.com.
