Box Score

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina softball (24-19, 7-10) failed to get a run across and suffered a 3-0 loss to the No. 15 Florida Gators (31-10, 10-4) in game two of the Saturday doubleheader. UF clinches the series with the win and the Gamecocks have now lost their second straight conference series.

UF scored two runs in the fourth inning and one in the sixth to claim the win. In the fourth, Lindsey Cameron recorded her third hit of the day, first of the game, when she singled to left field with one out. After stealing second, Cameron scored on an RBI single by pinch hitter Mirelis Torres. Next up was Kristen Butler, who tripled and drove in Torres and put Florida up 2-0. Starter Aleca Johnson (4-6) then gave up a walk with two outs before USC changed pitchers. Kate Pouliot entered the game and got the final out to end the inning.

In the bottom half of the fourth, Ashley Smith drew a walk with two outs to keep the inning alive and then Lisa Longo followed with one of her two hits for the game. But USC could not manage to score as a Chrissy Schoonmaker hit a grounder to short and shortstop xxx tagged the bag to put out Longo.

Florida’s run in the sixth came on a home run by Mirelis Torres, the second long ball of the day the Gamecocks gave up. USC pitching has given up four home runs in the last four games, 66 for the year.

The Gamecocks were able to collect on three hits, two by Longo and one by Meghan Cornett, who extended her hitting streak to three games. Cornett has also reached base safely in 11 consecutive games.

Johnson threw 3.2 innings and gave up two runs on three hits while Pouliot pitched 3.1 innings and gave up one run on two hits. Stacey Stevens improved to 16-6 as she pitched seven innings and gave up three hits.

Game three of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. EST. The game will be televised live on FOX Sports Net South, channel 31 on Time Warner Cable in Columbia.
