Knoxville, Tenn. – South Carolina track and field athletes wrapped up the two-day heptathlon competition on Thursday evening at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. Gamecocks Chelsea Hammond finished in fourth place with 4976 points, while Chelsea Kaczmarek finished 14th (4319) and Reanna Townsend came in 17th (3729). Georgia’s Jessica Stockard won the seven-event competition with a total of 5369 points.

Highlighting Hammond’s performance was a first place finish in the high long jump. Hammond leaped to a height of 5’8 ¾, while also finishing second in the jump with a distance of 19’10 ¾. Kaczmarek finished fourth in both the 200m dash and 800m, with times of 25.92 and 2:22.62, respectively.

The currently ranked Gamecocks are among 107 teams/affiliations participating in this weekend’s meet that includes approximately 1,350 men’s and women’s collegiate and post-collegiate athletes. The decathlon and heptathlon were the only events that contested on Wednesday and Thursday, while other events kick-off on Friday, starting at 8:45 a.m. in the field with the women’s hammer and 12:40 p.m. with the men’s steeplechase.
