Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina women’s tennis team head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the 2005 SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament. The Gamecocks enter the tournament with a 13-7 record overall, and a 6-5 mark in the conference and ranked 24th in the nation. USC will be the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will be playing the 11th seed Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday at 3 p.m..

USC defeated the Razorbacks, 6-1, in March in Fayetteville in the 2005 conference opener. The Gamecocks ended the season winning four of their last five matches. If the Gamecocks get past the Razorbacks in the first round, they will face the No. 3 seed Florida Gators on Friday at 3 p.m..

The top six teams in the overall SEC standings are all from the East. The seven through 12 schools are from the west. All six teams in the SEC East are ranked in the ITA Top 25, with four of the schools ranked in the top eight in the nation. The ITA ranks 75 schools in its team rankings, and 11 of the 12 SEC schools are appear in the top 59 in the nation. Nine schools are in the top 40 with the 10th school coming in at 42nd in the country. Listed below are more notes about the Gamecocks and information about the 2005 SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament.

Players Ranked
The Gamecocks have two players ranked in singles. Sophomores Christyn Lucas and Laura Ganzer are the only two players on the 2005 USC squad to hold a national ranking. Lucas enters the 2005 SEC Tournament ranked 97th in the country while Laura Ganzer is 117th in the nation.

2005 SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament Information
The 2005 SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament is coming to the University of Alabama for the first time since 1992. The tournament will begin on Thursday, April 21, and run through Sunday, April 24. The tournament will be played at the UA Tennis Complex, which features 12 lighted courts and is in its first year as the home of Alabama Tennis. All 12 institutions will compete during the championship weekend to see who will be crowned 2005 SEC Champion.

Pre-sales are limited to tournament booklets only. The tournament booklet is good for admission all four days of competition. Prices for the booklet are as follows:
Adult Tournament Book $20.00
Youth Tournament Book $10.00 (15 & under)

Single day tickets can be purchased at the venue on all the days of the tournament. The ticket booth will be open one hour prior to the first match of each day. Daily ticket prices are as follows:
Adult Daily Ticket $ 7.00
Youth Daily Ticket $ 3.00 (15 & under)
College Students Free w/ college ID
