Oxford, Miss. – South Carolina’s losing slump continued Saturday as the Gamecocks (24-25-1, 7-15) lost 4-1 to Ole Miss (26-23, 6-15) in game one. Jessica Josker went 2-for-3 and scored the lone run for the Gamecocks. Kate Pouliot (6-11) took the loss as M.J. Callahan (11-11) earned the win. Ole Miss had four runs on eight hits to record the victory while USC had one run on four hits.

In the bottom of the second, Chloe Kloezeman hit a one-out single to reach base and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mandy Ott. Lauren Rowe then drew a two-out walk and Rebecca McIntire struck out for out number three but a passed ball by the Gamecocks allowed McIntire to keep the inning alive and loaded the bases for the Rebels. Kayla Mosley then hit lined a sharp infield single towards third base and drove in Kloezeman to put Ole Miss on the board 1-0.

The Rebels second run of the game came on a sacrifice fly from Brittany Warner and scored Callahan in the fifth inning. Callahan singled with one out, reached second on a sac hit and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Pouliot. After Ole Miss went up 2-0, DeDe Justice hit a home run to deep center field and drove in two runs to give the Rebels a 4-0 lead.

The Gamecocks broke up the shutout in the sixth inning when Ashley Smith hit and RBI single to score Josker, who also singled to reach safely in the inning. That would be all the Gamecocks would get as Lisa Longo grounded out to the third baseman with two outs for the final out of the inning. USC would not get any runs in the seventh as Callahan sat the Gamecocks down in order.

The Gamecocks have now lost three of the last four games they have played against the Rebels dating back to 2004.
