Rain moved the main draw matches of the 2005 Wachovia Junior Hardcourt Championships inside to the USC Indoor Tennis Facility on Tuesday. The day started off with about a two hour delay because of rain. Once the courts dried, play at the outdoor facilities started around 10 am to only be taken off the court around 12 because of more rain. The consolation matches for all draws were cancelled for the day due to the inclement weather.

The girls 18 singles final is set for Wednesday. Syreeta Thompson advanced to the final with a 6-2,6-1 victory over Emily Dyar. Thompson and Dyar knocked off the #2 and #3 seed prior to today’s match. Thompson will face Dana Richards. Richards knocked off Haley Baird 6-1,2-6,6-4.

In the boys 18 singles semifinal, Ross Moyer of Florence knocked off top seeded Caleb Barnes 6-3,2-6,6-1. Moyer will match up against Paul Appleby of Simpsonville. Appleby took a 6-2,7-6(5) victory against Eric Claggett on Tuesday.

Austine Heinz of Daniel Island defeated Bailey Kirkland 6-0,6-1 in the boys 10 singles to advance to the finals. Heinz will face Jordan Dingle of Aiken on Wednesday. Dingle upset the #4 seed Brent Lett in straight sets 6-2,7-5. Dingle has upset the #2 and 4 seeds in the tournament and will be looking to knock off top-seeded Heinz.

In the girls 10 singles it will be the top two seeds squaring off for the championship trophy. Katherine Lee, the #1 seed, took a 6-1,6-1 victory against #4 seed Emily Erickson on Tuesday. Lee will face the #2 seed Katie Tiller of Camden who defeated the #3 seed Sarah McDonald 6-2,6-3. On Monday night, Tiller clinched the 10 year old girl doubles championship with her partner Shannon DeLoach of Columbia. DeLoach and Tiller defeated Sarah McDonald and Lillian Saul 8-2 in the finals.

The Wachovia Junior Hardcourt Championships will continue on Wednesday at four locations on the University of South Carolina campus: Maxcy Gregg (Boys and Girls 12), Sam Daniels (Boys and Girls 18), Columbia Tennis Center (Boys and Girls, 14 and 16), and USC Indoor Tennis Facility (Boys and Girls 10).
