Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina’s cross country team joins eight other Division I schools for the Winthrop Invitational, in Rock Hill, S.C. on Saturday morning, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Gamecocks are looking to improve their times and pickup their first win of the 2005 season.

The other Division I schools in the meet include: Davidson, Gardner-Webb, High Point, UNC Greensboro, South Carolina State, Winthrop and Wofford.

USC placed fourth in the Clemson Invitational last Saturday. Rebecca Chain, the top runner for the Gamecocks, ran 18:41 and finished in 12th place, while freshman Laura Regensburg set a collegiate personal best 19:26, good enough for 25th place. They both improved their times from the September 2 Gamecock Invitational in Columbia.

Following the Winthrop Invitational, the Gamecocks will return to action at the Great American Cross Country Meet in Cary, NC next Saturday at 10:00 am. Complete coverage will be available at www.uscsports.com.
