The 35 points scored by Detroit-Mercy is the fewest points scored against Carolina since Maryland scored 31 on January 9, 1971 (30-31 OT win for Maryland). The last team USC held under 40: Charleston Southern who scored 36 on December 17, 2003. It is the third time that a Carolina opponent was held under 40 points against USC under Coach Odom. (The Citadel 38 on December 3, 2003 and Charleston Southern 36 on December 17, 2003) The 35 points is the fewest points ever scored in a men’s game at the Colonial Center and it is the lowest point total ever scored against a Coach Odom team in his 20+ years as a head coach.

This was the third straight game USC had 22 points at half-time. USC is 1-2 in those three games.

This is the third game this season where Brandon Wallace has three or more blocked shots. Wallace finished the game with four blocks. (7 vs. Alaska, and 3 vs. Wofford).

Detroit was the second team USC has held to less than 20 points in a half as Wofford scored just 15 in the first half against USC on Dec. 17.

This was the first meeting between the two schools. It was the first time UDM head coach Perry Watson has faced USC, but Coach Odom is now 1-2 vs. the Titans (played them when he was head coach at East Carolina).

This was the first game this season that Tarence Kinsey did not start for the Gamecocks. The last time he did not start was on February 27, 2005 versus Florida. Entering today’s contest he started in 18 straight games. He has 70 career starts in 97 games played and started every game last year with the exception of the Florida game. He did not play at Vandy due to a family funeral (March 2, 2005).
