COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Southeastern Conference today named the University of South Carolina’s Natasa Vuckovic women’s tennis co-Player of the Week with Vanderbilt’s Taka Bertrand.
A freshman from Novi Sad, Serbia & Montenegro, Vuckovic went 3-0 in her singles matches, including a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 76 Debra Streifler of Michigan Feb. 4. She also defeated Furman’s Lauren Osborne, 6-2, 7-6(3), Jan. 31 and Maryland’s Veronika Subertova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, Feb. 3. Vuckovic never dropped a set in her three singles wins, improving her overall spring record to 4-0.
In doubles, Vuckovic and junior Laura Ganzer split their two matches, defeating Furman’s Shannon Moore and Osborne, 8-1, before falling to Maryand’s Subertova and Brooke Rogers, 8-6. Against Michigan, Vuckovic teamed with fellow freshman Gira Schofield to beat Kara Delicata and Allie Shafner, 8-3.
The University of South Carolina women’s tennis team (4-1), ranked 27th in the Feb. 7 Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings, returns to action Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. when it hosts No. 34 Clemson.
