Feb. 17, 2006

Former South Carolina soccer player Brad Guzan (2003-2004) is one of two goalkeepers on the roster for the United States National Team’s match against Guatemala on Sunday, Feb. 19. Sunday’s contest marks the first for the men’s national team at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, and the 1 p.m. CT kickoff will be televised live by ESPN2.

Guzan has spent the last six weeks in training camp with the National Team at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The invitation was the first for Guzan, who opted to turn pro following his sophomore season at South Carolina. He was the No. 2 pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft, marking the earliest selection ever of a goalkeeper. As a rookie, Guzan started 23 matches between the pipes for CD Chivas USA and made 104 saves.
