COLUMBIA, S.C. – Gamecock softball continues play this week as the Garnet and Black travel to Charlotte for a midweek, single game matchup against the Charlotte 49ers Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Phillips Complex. South Carolina hopes to improve on its 7-4 record while the 49ers hope to add to their 1-3 record.
South Carolina leads the series against Charlotte 27-2 and last year, swept the doubleheader in Columbia. The Gamecocks have won the last 22 straight and have not lost to the 49ers since 1990.
USC is coming off of a 2-2 weekend at the Seminole Classic where they split with Iowa State and Florida State. Lisa Longo led the Gamecocks last week as she went 7-for-13 and hit .538 with two RBI. Jessica Josker had nine hits and hit .409 and four runs. USC is 1-1 at away venues and is 3-3 against teams on neutral sites.
The Gamecocks return home this weekend when they host the Gamecock Invitational, Feb. 25-26. N.C. State, Fordham and Georgia Southern will participate in the tournament.
