Columbia, S.C. –
Mike Morgan has been named the 2005 Sportscaster of the Year for the state of South Carolina by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA). Morgan earned the award for his work as the radio voice of Gamecock basketball and baseball; and the television voice of Gamecock football.

“It is a great honor to receive this award,” said Morgan. “I have tremendous respect for the NSSA and all they have done to acknowledge sportscasters throughout the country. It is a great privilege to work with some talented analysts for all three sports and a pleasure to broadcast games for the Gamecocks.”

Morgan’s radio work is heard on the Gamecock Sports Network. His television announcing takes place on such networks as CSS, ESPNPlus, and Pay Per View. Morgan also co-hosts a sports/talk show on WIS radio in Columbia.

The prestigious NSSA is in its 47th year of honoring the nation’s top sportscasters. The national winner is Jim Nantz, who will be honored in late April along with Morgan and the other state winners. Phil Rizzuto will also be inducted in the NSSA Hall of Fame.
