South Carolina-LSU Quotes

South Carolina coach Dave Odom

“Our team certainly played hard and I think for the most part, played very well.”

“When I watched them on tape, they are clearly the best half-court man-to-man offensive team in the (SEC).”

“For the most part, the game plan was a good one. We just weren’t able to sustain that throughout the whole game.”

“In the beginning of the second half, we got the ball and came out a little bit sluggish. They hit two threes to tie it up and for the next 18 minutes, I don’t think anybody had any kind of working margin.”

“I thought we had some really great looks down the stretch. That’s all you want is your team to have a shot to win it and hopefully those kinds of shots will go for you.”

“Defensively we were extremely good the first half. We kept Glen Davis pretty much out of rhythm. In the second half, the idea was to wear him down, but the guy is an athlete. He’s well conditioned and it’s tough to wear him down, and in truth as hard as we worked defensively in the first half, it got to our defenders. They wore down trying to defend him.”

Senior Guard Tarence Kinsey

“You have to keep carrying on because you never want to be a quitter. That’s what coach embeds in our heads everyday. Everybody wants to just try and push through. We know we have the talent to compete, but everything is not going as smoothly for us. We still have a little bit of time left. I’m not saying a lot of time, but a little bit more time to try and turn things around. That’s what we’re supposed to do.”

“Coming in tonight, I thought we could win. We’ve lost some heartbreakers. Most of the games we’ve had control. We have this last game, and we’re still focused to come out and try to get the win.”

Junior Guard Tre Kelley

“You’ve just got to keep giving an effort. We’re still playing. We have two guaranteed games, including the SEC Tournament, and we can’t go into the games thinking about our last loss. We need to keep playing and find a way to win. If you just can’t get it done down the stretch, you have to find a way to do it.”

LSU Coach John Brady

On the game:

“I was proud of our team and how they handled the adversity with Tyrus Thomas not playing. Thomas was not here and Darrel Mitchell was not having a good game shooting the ball, but Glen Davis had a good game. It was his 8th straight double-double. Tasmin Mitchell is an outstanding freshman and has a good game, too. He is one of the better freshmen in the league and will get better.”

“I was proud of how we played this game. We had only nine turnovers, which is good because we have a tendency to turn the ball over.”

On South Carolina:

“When they make three’s, they win. We covered their shooters coming off of the staggered screens and forced them to make shots elsewhere.”

“We guarded South Carolina better in the second half and stopped their open looks, which rushed them into some shots. Tarence Kinsey was 4 of 30 from the 3 point line coming into this game but he was 5 of 10 in this game. It caught us off guard and we adjusted to guard him better in the second half.”

“South Carolina is a good team. They beat Florida twice, handled Alabama and have faced some other good teams. They are an athletic team but sometimes the consistency just is not there for them. Dave Odom is a great coach and it will eventually work out. They get points from different people at different times. Tonight, Tarence Kinsey played well and scored a lot of points for them.”
