COLUMBIA, S.C. – For the second consecutive week, the Southeastern Conference announced that South Carolina softball landed a Freshman of the Week honor. First baseman Jacqueline Wetherbee was named FOW for her efforts during the week ending March 5. Wetherbee was named MVP of the Tar Heel Invitational and helped lead USC to a perfect 7-0 week.

The Acworth, Ga. native led the Gamecocks to a perfect 5-0 record at the tournament en route to the perfect week. She hit a home run in four consecutive games, including the game winner against Memphis. Wetherbee also scored a run, and drove in a run in all five games at the tournament. In four of those games, she recorded at least two RBI per game. Her totals for the tournament include nine RBI, five runs scored and hit .571 as she went 8-for-14. She currently has a six-game hitting streak.

Last week, second baseman Ashton Payne was name FOW, marking the first conference honor of the season for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina opens SEC play action this weekend, March 11-12 when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to take on the Crimson Tide of Alabama. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for a 2 p.m. (ET) start and on Sunday, the game is marked for a 2:30 p.m. (ET) start.
