COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina completed a two-game sweep of College of Charleston as they shut out the Cougars 7-0 in game two of the doubleheader. USC moved over the 20-win mark as they improved to 21-10. For the day, USC totaled 19 hits and 15 runs. C of C fell to 15-17 on the year. Jessica Barnes pitched a complete game and struck out 11 as she improved to 3-3. Shannon Howard took the loss for the Cougars and fell to 8-9.

Ashton Payne went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Ashley Smith went 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Jessica Josker also contributed at the plate as she went 2-for-4 and had two RBI.

The Gamecocks notched seven runs on nine hits, which included three doubles. USC scored three runs in the second on an RBI walk by Payne and a two-RBI single by Josker.

In the fourth, Payne added two more RBIs with a single to left field and McKenna Hughes recorded a sac fly to right field to put the Gamecocks up 6-0.

With two outs in the fifth inning, back-to-back doubles by Chrisssy Schoonmaker and Ashley Smith provided Carolina its seventh and final run of the evening.

USC appeared to possibly be in trouble in the seventh after Kelby Schooley led off with a walk and Shondra Schlichenmayer reached on an error. Barnes then buckled down and struck out Bridget Loudermilk before Izmena Cabrera grounded into a double play to put the game in the books.
